This special edition of Rock A Bye Baby is supported by City of Yarra, and is part of Leaps and Bounds 2023.

What is Rock A Bye Baby?

It's a concert designed for both adults and kids alike, featuring artists from all genres and cultures, and is PBS' way of helping inspire the next generation of music lovers. Rock A Bye Baby is a no-frills, daytime gig for families of all ages, with real musicians and bands. We welcome noise, encourage crawling, and expect dancing!

PBS acknowledges that this event is taking place on stolen land where sovereignty was never ceded and a treaty has not been made. We pay our respects to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and their elders past and present.

PARSNIP

Naarm/Melbourne and Djillong/Geelong based quartet Parsnip founded their gumnut gang sounds on remnants of the past; youths of the 60s singing their pre-pubescent little hearts out, mingled with D-floor favourite Le Tigre’s Deceptacon. Since their formation in 2016, they have blazed their own trail of sonic, propulsive wriggle-rock, delighting crowds across Australia and beyond.

On debut EP Health (2017) the band’s chemistry was already palpable, serving a sugar rush so sweet, that single Feeling Small the following year made for a flavoursome appetiser. In 2019, teaming up with comrades The Shifters, the split LP Hip Blister was released with Future Folklore Records before the first album by the ensemble, When the Tree Bears Fruit came into fruition. Released on Anti Fade Records and Chicago’s Trouble in Mind label, the assortment of whimsy and spirit created an alternative world imagined in nature, journeying by car, plane and boat, ever seeking a sanctuary where only the heart resides.

Parsnip took their giddy hooks offshore following the release, traipsing around various bars and basements across North America, including the 2019 Gonerfest in Memphis, TN. In early 2020, the band were warmly received at Golden Plains festival in Australia, the last hurrah before the live music scene came to a halt. In lockdown, they released the solid 4-track EP Adding Up, showcasing a more defiant energy and technical prowess. A Japan-tour pending, Parsnip is flourishing into a unified force, cultivated in the seedbed of fun and friendship.
