On the evening of Friday the 14th of July, Leo and band will be launching their brand new single ‘Rough Hands’. Leo’s third single follows their debut with ‘Doctor’ and ‘Half Unconscious’.

‘Rough Hands’ presents a new and upbeat side to Leo’s music, along with their signature melancholy introspective.

This last year has seen Leo play alongside Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Didirri, G Flip and Bec Stevens, amongst other local favourites. As excitement grows around Leo’s recently launched full band shows, this is not an evening to miss!

This lineup couldn’t be more irresistible with local punk rock, ukulele distorted, heart-throbs of the Northside, Baby Shower opening. Baby Shower will give you everything you want and nothing you’d expect - in the best way imaginable. Additionally, opening up the event is queer legends of Naarm, Erin Will Be Mad (EWBM). From EWBM you can expect dark-alt rock with moody undertones that you can’t help but revel in.

Artist Bio

Leo is a Naarm/Melbourne based singer songwriter writing confronting yet sincere songs around the indie/folk/rock genre. Their debut single ‘Rough Hands’ was released in early 2022 with an eerie yet hard-hitting nature both lyrically and musically. Leo’s music widely takes influence from City and Colour, Nick Cave, Phoebe Bridgers, Sorry as well as local acts The Lazy Susans, Bec Stevens, Eaglemont and Cash Savage and the Last Drinks. Recently merging into a 4-piece band, Leo is now accompanied on stage to emulate the eerie yet heavy nature of Doctor, Half Unconscious and their upcoming releases. 2023 has seen Leo release their sophomore single ‘Half Unconscious’ as well as play alongside indie royalty Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Lazy Susan’s, Tamara and the Dreams and many others.

Half Unconscious was initially written about loving someone who does not love you to the same degree in which you love them but appreciating them as a person all the while. The song was initially written in 2016 but in 2021 I had a realisation that the premises of the song were absent in awareness of how I was actually being treated. The second verse was rewritten and lyric changes now portray the genuine nature of the relationship.

“Don’t think I blamed you, this is not a song of despise. This will never be hatred to your wide eyes” was changed to “Maybe think I blamed you, cus’ this is a song of despise. I thought I loved you but I won’t forget what you did that night.”.
Half Unconscious was recorded and produced with Jonathon Tooke (Cry Club) in late 2021/early 2022. The song was mixed by Jarred Nettle and mastered by Adam Dempsey.
