A night of yidaki, songs, and stories about Fitzroy's iconic meeting places
Join for a yarn, music and spoken word.
'The Builders Arms' once known by some as the 'Black Pub of Melbourne' and was a hub for the Aboriginal community from the 1930s-1980s. In this time many people came off the missions and found family and community in Fitzroy.
From interviews recorded for Yalinguth, we've curated an intimate collection of stories about love, loss, rough times, and the strength of community spirit that grew in these meeting places. These narratives will be woven together by Jason Tamiru playing yidaki and clapsticks.
You will hear audio stories from well-known Elders such as Uncle Archie Roach, Uncle Jack Charles and Aunty Beryl Booth.
Uncle Robbie Thorpe will join us for a yarn, followed by a music/spoken word set from Mpath Soul.
Upstairs at 'The Builders', don't miss it!
